Professional Summary

Carol Lloyd is en pointe with a multitude of expertise in management and production from various arenas.  The Executive Producer of Atlanta's Premiere Black Dance Festival -- Dynamic Dance Festival, Inc., she recently served as Executive Producer of the 22nd Annual International Dunham Technique Seminar -- the last seminar presented prior to the passing of Miss Katherine Dunham.  This event celebrated a banner year for dance legend Katherine Dunham and revived the organization's artistic mission -- to promote and preserve the legacy -- while producing the first issue of the "Dunham Technique Legacy Series."

In addition, Ms. Lloyd is the former Associate Producer of the Wheelbarrow Summer Theatre Festival at Reynoldstown, a community-based initiative that celebrates the historic Reynoldstown Community -- one of the oldest African American Communities established in Atlanta, Georgia after slavery.  A co-founder of the Atlanta School of Performing Arts (ASPA), her credits include being on the planning committee for dance historian, Dr. Richard Long's, celebrity birthday celebration.  She also produced "A Conversation with Arthur Mitchell" an historic event for the metropolitan Atlanta dance community that celebrated dance icon Arthur Mitchell and his career achievements as a pioneer of American dance.

Blessed with a passion for dance, through her consulting services, Ms. Lloyd has worked with and presented many renowned African and African American dance pioneers including Dr. Pearl Primus, Ms. Carmencita Romero, Rod Rodgers, Joe Nash, Jimmy Payne, Tommy Sutton, Tommy Gomez, Doris Bennett-Glasper, Baba Chuck Davis, C. Scoby Stroman, Souleymane Koly, Les Ballets Africains de la Republique de Guinee, and Marie Brooks to name a few.

A consummate special events producer, Ms. Lloyd had a brief interlude into the entertainment industry.  While there, she was Executive Producer of the Recording Arts Festival -- an upscale entertainment event that celebrated the lives of Atlanta-based recording artists (featured artists included: Brick, Cameo, SOS Band, Too Short, Goodie Mob and Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz).  In addition, she presented the Alpha Phi Alpha Millenium 2000 Convention Step Contest as a central part of the event.  Prior to this, she served on the planning committee as Event Manager for Hip-Hop mogul Jermaine Dupri's All Star Weekend & Celebrity Birthday Bash that encompassed a weekend of exclusive events at various venues throughout Metropolitan Atlanta.

During a span of two decades, Ms. Lloyd has managed and produced dance and theatre programs throughout the U.S.  She served as Producing Manager of the Theatre & Dance Programs with the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) Cultural Olympiad.  She was responsible for the negotiations and implementation of all theatre and dance programs for the 1996 Olympic Arts Festival (OAF) -- the largest most comprehensive arts festival ever presented in conjunction with the Modern Olympic Games.  The OAF presented several world premieres in theater and dance.  Noted artists featured included Robert Earl Price, Phylicia Rashad, Pearl Cleage, Ferrol Sams, Sam Shepard, Joseph Chaikin, Saratoga International Theater Institute (SITI), and the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain.

The OAF featured critically acclaimed dance companies including the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Pilobolus, Royal Thai Ballet (Thailand), Phoenix Dance Theatre (England), Gregor Seyffert & Company (Germany), the Nederlands Dans Theater (Netherlands), and Soweto Street Beat Theatre (South Africa) just to name a few.  A highlight of Ms. Lloyd's involvement was managing a two-year international collaboration between the Paris-based acclaimed choreographer Irene Tassembedo (originally from Burkina Faso) and an Atlanta-based dance company Ballethnic.

Prior to joining the OAF management team, Ms. Lloyd worked with a number of Atlanta-based corporate and government entities including the Fulton County Arts Council, Georgia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, Arts Exchange, and the National Black Arts Festival, while providing expertise as a creative consultant/program manager.

Carol began her career in dance in 1976 as a student of the Thompson School of Dunham Technique (Springfield, IL) and was subsequently directed in the arts by the renowned Katherine Dunham who remained as a mentor while inspiring Carol on towards her many accomplishments in the field.  She later founded the Dunham Institute-Atlanta that provided a comprehensive after school enrichment program to the youth of South DeKalb, Georgia.  A committed arts veteran, Ms. Lloyd works with a wide range of community-based arts and entertainment entities to promote African-American culture in our society.
